A year after Mahsa Amini's death, what is life like for women in Iran?

Kim Chakanetsa meets two Iranian activists to reflect on the anniversary of Mahsa Amini's death.

Azadeh Pourzand is a human rights researcher and a civic entrepreneur at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London. Her research and writing focus on human rights in Iran, with an emphasis on freedom of expression, rule of law, minority rights, and women's empowerment.

Donya is a British-Iranian Gen Z activist and the founder of Be Iran鈥檚 Voice, a social media movement raising awareness on the ongoing situation in the country. Donya was brought up in the UK but would visit Iran regularly. After seeing people her own age organising to resist the regime in 2022, she decided to become politically active. She is part of a world-wide expat community who is helping Iran鈥檚 youth get their message through.
