Your Newquay

Newquay

Have you been to Newquay? It's got some of the best beaches in the UK.

We're going on the 4th August to get stuck in to some surfing and to have a bit of a dance.

What else should we do whilst we're there? Which are the best beaches?

Where should we go for a drink and bite to eat once the sea has knackered us out? More importantly where are the best parties?

We want to hear what you got up to last time you were there so we can pinch your ideas and get a plan together.

Our lovely map of Europe

CommentThis is what you're saying...

i live just up the road from fistral so will be walking down to see you over the weekend, can't wait. Best place to eat is Senor Dicks mexican (yes I know 'seen your dick' ha ha very funny) but the food and service is superb. If you want to get out of the madness of the town centre head for the Lewinnick Lodge on pentire headland, has an amazing terrace that looks right out over fistral beach and beyond. Soak up the rays with a cold pint, as I do every Sunday. Enjoy!!
carla

Been to newquay countless times since '98', went to uni in plymouth so it was always on the door step! was there for my 21st and it was a messy one but just recently been down for a stag do... classic! great laughs, ridiculously fit women all over the place (chris will love that!), and seriously cool bars! watched England Vs Portugal in the walkabout and I've never known an atmosphere like it short of actually beig at the game! should always check out corkers, newquay arms, tall trees and the central... If i could, I'd move there!!! big up the newquay spesh!
Choo Choooooo

i live in newquay and work in a FUN pub called 'corkers downtown'. come in on friday night and you can be sure it won't be too busy so you have room to dance (with the staff). come in and see us. we will be waiting. ha ha ha ha ha ha
jenny

Have had some amazing weekends in Newquay. If you fancy a chilled out beer before getting going, look behind the Newquay Arms for a hidden gem. Big chairs, occasional accoustic music. Superb. Then it's on to the SPringbok for a really fun night. Not at all serious, just a fun night out. Giant wickets, rugby balls TV' sin some of the zebra skinned seating areas. Lots more fun tha Sailors!!!
Nathan from Yeovil

the best thing about newquay is the road out of it. head further north for better beaches, better surf, friendlier pubs and no stag do's!
dave kermito

because i want to be with chris and have a good yahoo. so we can go surfing and then have a pint when we gat off the beach. i think i can drink more than chris anyway, and my mate darren like the sound of alled. and hes agoos looking lad and aled might just like the meat he packs!!!
steven and darren

The lads have their cars fired up and ready to go Newquay. In the 2006 edition of the Ladsball Rally. See how the local country boys fair up during the weekend in Newquay with Radio 1. www.theladsballrally.jamespenrose.com
The Lads

i live in tower road newquay opposite fistral and the place to be is the red lion pub at the bottom of the road, great view( over the harbour) beer at NORMAL prices and live music... and a stones throw from the headland after the sunset.....sweet

Newquay is the best place in the world!! Go once you'll never want to go home! I've been going for 20 odd?!! years and I can't stop.I luv the Chy bar and Fistral Blu has the best views ever!! Try Lewinnick up near the golf course for a great meal and Fifteen is excellent. Sailors and berties are still the best clubs though.Watergate Bay is dead cool, the beach bar watchin the surf with a cold beer you can't beat that! I want to go again!!
Nik Mayall

I'm another local: I鈥檇 say avoid Sailors like the plague as it tends to be crammed with sweaty boys in the summer and I don't think that's what you were hoping for. Berties is cool, with some decent music, and Walkabout is also good. There's also a restaurant called the Meadery, go there if you enjoy ye olde food piled high, massive ribs and an escape from drunken tourists for 5 minutes!
Helen

Drive to Weymouth get on to the high speed ferry (4 hours) to Jersey. Better surf / bars / clubs / beaches / babes / etc. You know it makes sense and you definitely won't regret it.
andy brown

try the vic bars for a good bit of rock and its outta the way from all the idiot druken boys!! good beer and excellent posters on the walls...
Ass, newquay

I live in Cornwall about 30minutes from Newquay its a class place to party with a great holiday feel !!! 110% recommended x x
Katie Bravo

The Blue Reef Aquarium is Fab! I got sunburn :( so a cool place indoors was a great find! It's the only place in Newquay where you are happy to see Sharks!! I went with my boyfriend and he loved it too!
Anna

I love Cafe Irie, great food and smoothies! Oh and zen Lodge B&B 6ftx6ft futons to sleep on, stayed there last summer absolute bliss and where else can you order an organic japenese breakfast?!!
Angel Watson

tall trees is a non air con sweat box and the worst place you could end up!!!!!
dave

You should check out the beach at Porth just on the North side of Newquay. I went to Porth Beach campsite for years and would go back tomorrow if I could. The beach is wonderful and so is the water. Watergate bay is also fab
Gill Rogers

Tacky, contrived, overdone, overcrowded in summer, desolate in winter, but I came down for a season five years ago and never left... all the locals and semi locals whinge about it yet we never leave, we love it really!
Spanx

I live in Newquay, and the only place to be on a Saturday night is Sailors, great music right to the end! and maybe for the friday try Berties or Barracuda, cheesey music to your hearts content!! Go to the Bay Bar at the Bay Hotel, Fistral, for amazing views and good food.
Jody

Forget the overcrowded Newquay Beaches for surfing, hit Godrevy/Gwithian for three miles of unspoilt beach./.
Bob Bobbins

You should definately head out of Newquay to Perranporth, there's a wicked beach and right in the middle of the sand dunes there is an amazing bar/restaurant called the watering hole.
princess charlie

Make sure you nip off to st austell to see the eden project....the biggest green houses in britain.... you'll sweat a bit and lose a few pounds but the food is good after the walk round. Signed The Head teacher!
Peter Cunningham

You must go to the Chy Bar and ask for gary, (tell him Kazza sent you lol)it brills, great music, and lovely cocktails etc and a decent beer!! And wow what a view over the bay! I have lived here now for 25 years and could never imagine living anywhere else. Hope you all make it to the boardmasters gig at Watergate bay on Friday/saturday would love to meet u all and have a beer!! Enjoy Newquay, its great and you will love it xoxoxoox
Kazza C

you have to check out this bar in town called buZios, i went there last year for the movie premiere of a Bruce Irons surf flick, that place rocks!!
Duncan Shears

best place in newquay, all of it well apart from Bedruthan Steps just out side newquay about a mile i think.the second best place in the country woolacombe good surf spot
joe 90

went 2 weeks ago.stayed at sunnyside and had a wicked time.fistral beach is cool as well.Keep away from tall trees its jail bait
paddy

I used to work in the kitchens of the Atlantic Hotel in Newquay....apperently the filmset for roald dhal's the witches. creepy yet welcoming. Tho stay well away from the food!!! After you go their you can visit the local job centre and see all the ex staff member who got fired by the tyranical manageress. No joke...you won't have to look for long.
Andy Devine

Ok hold up hold up....newquay is a beatiful place unfortunately cheapened by the tourism industry. But hey we all need a living! As a result Newquay town centre is becoming a tacky-chav ridden haven. Dont get me wrong the beaches and surrounding area are still gorgeous. BUT (like others say)unless you are 17 you may need to leave time spent in the town to a minimum. Watergate Bay is lovely and The Lodge at Pentire point has a magnificent view over Fistral beach and lush food. For going out - Sailors is probably better than Berties by a margin, or even Walkabout as Chris knows...still be prepared for some young ones!!
I LIVE NR NEWQUAY

Travelled down with my friend Vikki in summer 02, lived in a tent and worked at the Beach nightclub. Newquay is fab! Sailors is awesome and there is NOTHING Like having a pint outside Central bar on a blazing hot day! Careful of seagulls and a cornish pasty and cream tea is a must!! Going back 19th August for a week.
Jo, Birmingham

Don't miss Blue Reef Aquarium - giant octopus is awesome, weird jellyfish, seahorses and sharks - the tunnel where you walk underneath a coral reef is amazing.
Nikki

Hi, I live in Cornwall, so these are some tips from a local; Deffo get some surf lessons @ Fistral! Watching it isnt enough! I agree with the Shack for food, great jacket potatoes-yumyum! Boozios is a great place to go to get ya started on your night out, we tend to start in weatherspoons & work down the pubs through the town to Sailors. Make the most of Centrals 2 cocktails for 拢5! Purple Rain is lush!! Have fun guys!
Jo

Just come back from excellent weekend in Newquay, wanna go back. Cool people, relaxed atmosphere, excellent shops not usual seaside tat. Nightlife excellent checkout tall trees and the beach, and for a bit different The Koola or Central Bar. ENJOY! I DID
fi

We went a few weeks ago, Berties is an amazing night club has something for everyone!! Visit the Sex Machine shop, T-shirts for everyone! and don't get sun burnt like most of us :P
Rob

all the beaches round newquay are fabulous, with alot of sexy surfer dudes on them! my favourite beach has to be watergate bay! the best waves, and the sexiest surfer and lifegurad dudes on it!fistral beach is good too!
Rosie

Chi bar is the best, cocktails are amazing, and very very comfy sofas. Ive just got back and want to be back their. Also another great game is Hen/stag party watching, some of the out fits are so funny, i think we counted 16 parties in just 1 night.!!!
Emma

i have been to newquay 9 times as a child, travelling from newcastle! i am 23 now and have been to ibiza for the last 6 years. After buying a house with my girlfriend this year i cant afford to go back this year so thought where is the best place to go which is like going to a hot, sun-drenched party island but without leaving the country...only place i could think of was Newquay...
Mike wallis

Everywhere in Newquay is great, buzzing nighlife this time of the year, but if you fancy something a bit more chilled try Holywell Bay golf club, have a round of pitch and put and then enjoy a mean Mavericks burger in he Sports bar (if you can handle it)
Shells

I reccomend the cake shop next to woolworths its amazing!!, and also sailors, berties, beach club, barracuda they are all mint.
Matt

Shire is the palce to go 4 a day out its got tons of huge slides for all you big kids out there!!
Con

Newquay nights are top i recommend Berties Club went in last Sat but dont remember leaving, dont forget to have a Subway half way through the night mmmmmmmmmm
Jeggy Boy

head up the coast after newquay and discover loads of great surfin spots
anon

over-expensive, over-busy, over-rated, avoid unless you're 16-18 and don't mind fighting for beach space in the sunshine. Head north or south for better surf, better beaches and fewer people.
Hugh Newsome

The Bordmasters festival is superb. The place is buzzing. Dave Pearce was amazing last year and the Nuts bikini babes were incredible
Mike Maurice

Been going to Newquey now for 8 years on the trot! Love it there if you get the weather and the surf its the place to be. Beaches are better than abroad! Hollywell Bay is worth a visit! Beautiful
Sam Champ

We went this time last year and had a great time, berties and barracudas great night outs. Fistral beach is one of the beaches to go on and have a surf and relax.
Shabir

The Shack has the best food, Sailors on a Sunday for 2-4-1 drinks and Tolcarne was my fave beach last summer as the staff were so friendly :)
Roz

when the clubs kick out theres always rave in a cave. south side of pentire headland, just up from llawenick lodge. thats a cracking place to eat. rave in a cave normally goes on til 8-9am. and doesnt get full of stag/hen parties.
james

THREE THINGS TO DO IN NEWQUAY!!! 1) Watch the surfing, spesh round fistral bay. 2) Watch the sunset over Watergate Bay whilst supping a cold pint, and eating the best burger ever from The Phoenix Pub (non of that jamie oliver shite) 3) Hit the town for the best night life everrr!!!!!!! Matt Exelby

Me and my friends have just returned from a wicked long weekend in Newquay! It is the place to be when the sun is shining! The night life is always pretty amazing, but we had a fab night in Sailors last Friday (dressed as superheroes!!)...
Superwoman!

Senor Dick's is an awesome restaurant. Great Mexican food and cocktails. After head to Walkabout or Berties, always packed and always good fun.
CJ

Berties on a wednesday is the place to be. It's school night with most people dressed up enjoying the games and school classics. Top night. Also for a late late drink, try Red Square in town centre. Open til 4:30am most nights. Good fun staff too
Beaker

Newquay is the best place ever everyone should go there and surf on fistral beach its emmense!!!
Nath

Get yourself to the Winter Brothers Surf School. They're proper sound guys & their brother is the only British surfer to make the Pro tour! We went last summer to learnt to surf. By the end of the week we were all up and getting into turning the board. Best fun I've had in years!
Liam

whilst your there go to Fistral beach and get some surfin done. Therebare other beaches around as well, near the town and other places. Newquay's town comes alive at night and is a really fun, exciting place to be at midnight!!There are lots of wicked restaurants inc;uding, Finns where your right by the harbour and the tide comes in and the seals come right up to where your eating!!!It's so cool!!When your there go shopping there are loadz of really cool and mad shops around and you can FIND SOME CooL STUFF!!!!The best beach is probable Fistral for surfing but for fun and games and going bathing then threes a little beach called Watergate Bay down by the WALKABOUT nightclub/restaurant!and its a really nice beach.Once yopu have surfed at Fistral go up the hill out of the car park, pass the entrance to the big hotel and walk down the road. You'll find a really cool bar/restaurant place that does lots of yummy food. It is also a hotel place for students and is very well located!!!It has lots of atmosphere to!!The best parties are probably just anywhere arpund newquay or in the town!!Just go and have a rave!!!Last time I was there I went surfing everyday at fistral, went and had luch at any cool place we cpuld find the go shopping and then go out tot a restaurant and then go partying!!!!!So go and have a great time and a good holiday/s!!!!!
Katie Bleekman

I agree, Watergate Bay is great. Recently went on a hen weekend surfing at Watergate Bay - wicked! And also a place to spot VWs if you're into that kind of thing!

louise & sarah

Newquay is absolutly wizard, sport. I've been there, and had a chuffing great time, splendid, 'twas. I'd recommend days the pub on the beach at Perranporth- spiffing pint, with no sand in it, eh? And go Karting, like a car, but no so large. I'm sure there's a top course somewhere, chum. Of course you'll want to spend some night times shaking one's toosh to some "wicked" tunes in Newqay centre! Capital!
Kenny-The-King-of-Dartington

i live in cornwall and newquay is lush! but if u go a bit futher perranporth beach is really nice too
Liana

Newquay is awesome - get the right weather and you feel like you are abroad! Its great for partying and great for surfing...

david black

Fistral beach and Crantock are amongst the best beaches around Newquay. Superb place to be!! Well worth a visit!
Mark

Rossi's Pizza is a must
Lukaaas

Try the Sugar Lounge on the main high street if you like clincal trendy places with slightly underground music. The Atlantic Hotel has two really nice restuarants, but the Itlian is much cheaper, but the surroundings and service is brilliant.
Fiona Townsend

here's the best clubs to hit for each nite of the week:mondays go to barracuda for cheap drinks @ 拢1.50 for pints & bottles [and the snakebite!], tuesdays is tall trees where they usually have a wet t-shirt competition, wednesday nite is always packed in sailors club, thursday berties niteclub for their new 'push' nite, friday is back to sailors for 拢1.50 bottles, saturday nite is awesome in koola, then its off to walkabout for the sunday chillout! avoid corkers at all costs, its crap!
ben

We went the other week to Jamie Oliver's Fifteen resturant at Watergate Bay, definatly worth it had a great time and the food as amazing. Definatly worth the money and Watergate Bay is really nice too
