I was so moved by this version that I have told my family I want it at my funeral

I always disliked the Judy Garland version because it was a sickly popsicle kinda song after hearing Evas' version several times i was hooked she turned it into an absolute classic. In fact any song she sings is instantly improved

When I first heard 'Over the Rainbow' I had been out of the music profession for a couple of years. I had become disillusioned with the way popular music seemed to be going. I had to find out more about this glorious singer and I was devastated to learn that she was no longer with us. When I consequently saw an advert in the music press for a singer to sing the songs of Eva Cassidy in a theatre show, I jumped at the chance and consequently got offered the contract, which I took up. It had the result of bringing me back into singing - I had forgotten how wonderful it was to sing, and singing Eva's arrangements with a great band was absolute heaven. Since then, I have stayed with my love of music and have just released my second original CD 'Music Moves Within Me'. I thank Eva not only for showing me the way, but for helping me find my true voice.

I heard "Over the Rainbow" about six month ago and was so moved that I jotted down Eva Cassidy's name on a piece of paper. I subsequently lost the paper and forgot her name. I went to the "warehouse Music Store" at the Meadows Mall here in Las Vegas hoping that one of the sales people could help me find the artist name but it was to no avail. We did a search on "Over The Rainbow" and I was amazed at how many artists had recorded it. Eva Cassisy was not on the list so I still didn't know who she was. I was hoping that by looking at the names, I would recognize or recall the name I had written down. Last Saturday I heard "Over The Rainbow" again and this time I jotted down Eva's name and put it in my wallet. I went back down the Meadows Mall and found her CD. I didn't know anything about her until I read the insert in the jacket of the CD and was sadden to hear that she had past away. I have been talking to all my friend all week and playing my CD so they could hear her beautiful voice and all have been moved.

I have always loved "Over the Rainbow" by Judy Garland but having heard Eva Cassidy's version years ago on Radio 2, there is now only one version of this song and that is by Eva Cassidy. Her arrangement and singing of this beautiful song is totally amazing and cannot be beaten.

Just when you think you've heard it all along comes a very personal version of this classic. I am often asked to perform "O.T.R." on harmonica and since hearing Eva's tender take on the song I feel a bit of her touch in my own technique. I also wonder if she ever heard the rendition done by the hawiian performer(can't remember name) that performed in the movie "FINDING FORRESTER." Once again...what a surprise to find an old song given new life. What pleasure music gives us but what priceless pleasure Eva Cassidy has passed on to one & all.

California
The first song that I ever heard Eva Sing was, "I Know You By Heart" and yes, I was moved to tears by that one. I listened to it over and over again. When you add to that how young she was when she passed on and what a great talent she was.. it's that much more devastating. I don鈥檛 think that there has ever been a person that I was not a friend or relative of and have never met, that I have felt such a connection with. I feel sad anytime I think about her, but I am so grateful that we were able to hear as many songs as we have from her. She was amazing.

Indeed I was moved to tears while listening to this version "Over The Rainbow". Why is that?

Rich
There is an blissful element of gain in this song.... To search for happiness whilst lost i believe sums up one of the fundimental elements of life. Ones true stuggle to except the hand you are delt

Eva's version is something different from the original and on that basis cannot be compared. It's beautiful how she places new marked emphasis on the text and makes one relisten & rethink the meanings. Judy's film rendition has all the optimism of youth; whereas when in her forties you feel the pain she's gathered in her life as she sings "somewhere........"

Laurie
I have never been so moved by an arrangement/performance of this song in my life. Truly beautiful.

Bill Shores/Milledgeville, Il.
Such soulful clarity. Eva鈥檚 voice is pure heaven and puts at rest all inner strife. With each note and nuance she gives of herself more than she could ever hope to receive. She was truly a candle in the wind, burning bright and delicately.

Catherine/Bermuda
On Saturday morning I attended a funeral where Eva's song Fields of Gold was played as the coffin was brough into the church. It was hautingly beautiful and tragic at the same time. It seemed like the song lasted forever and there was not a dry eye in the church. Such beauty in music...I can't get it out of my head!

Before any countries Leaders think of going to war. Make them listen to this song, I mean really listen to it......

Rob Harper Montgomery Powys
Really tear jerking song, what a waste of a young person dying from cancer. It is a much different version to Judy Garlands version of the same song. I think it is more moving !

Dean, Troon (Scotland)
Eva Cassidy's version is much better and truly is from the heart.

Mervyn, Hobart
A beautiful version by Eva, but the song belongs to Judy Garland. Her original version, and the Carnegie Hall 1961 version are so emotional. Check also Jo Stafford's version, but Judy still reigns supreme

Shirley/Manchester
Judy Garland's version is far superior, the emotion, poignancy, it brings me to tears very time I hear it. Cassidy's is a nice rendition but would it have the same poignancy if she hadn't died so tragically young? No is the answer.

Rachel, Sheffield
Judy Garland's version of this song was a sentimental classic. But I have to confess that whenever I hear Eva Cassidy singing this lovely song, it has me in tears every single time. Her rendition gave the song a poignancy that cannot be described in words. Every note and every word sang, shimmers and shines as a beautiful ballad all on its own, bringing heartfelt emotion by the bucketload.

John McMurray, Erfurt Germany
A lovely moving song, transformed into an exercise in morbidity. We all have to die, boo hoo hoo.

Alberto (Oviedo, Spain)
I love Eva Cassidy to bits, and I admire her brave and heartfelt rendition of Over the Rainbow, but this song will be forever Judy's, or as long as anyone remembers how many times she sang it and how she made it every time different and every time her own.

dorothy timaru nz.
How can anyone listen and not be touched by Eva's soulful delivery of this song? Heart rending.

maya, london
while i do concede that eva cassidy's version is lovely, nobody's rendition could top judy's. it is simply the most heart-rendering delivery of a song ever.

Greg (Lincolnshire)
The first time I heard this track it brought tears to my eyes. Eva had the voice of an angel and this track is truly emotionally inspirational

James, Worksop
The soulfulness added to this classic gives Eva Cassidy's version a poignancy that the rather niave lyric might not deserve. This is a song from a woman's perspective, where Judi Garland gives sentiment Eva Cassidy delivers heartache. Truly Moving.

rachel, leamington spa
this beautiful lullaby will be forever judy's
