'Afghanistan parties are long, starting at 5 o'clock in the evening until one or two, four, sometimes five o'clock.'

How I came to this music:

I am from the north of Afghanistan. My city is Kandoz. It's neighbour is Tajikistan. The weather is good, it's sunny. I play harmonium, tabla and sing. The instruments are the same as the Indian tabla and harmonium. I was seven years old when I started. I liked the music I heard on radio and TV and I learnt from it. I practised at home. My brother helped me, he played at home. He is a doctor and still lives in Afghanistan. I play malli music - a mix of Afghani and Indian music which is 5,000 years old. Mali is an area of Afghanistan and its music belongs especially to the people of Afghanistan. The music is made up of ragas, different to Indian ragas, they are especially for Afghanistan music.
