Where I Play:

I play in lots of different environments. Many are connected with teaching but, for me, that can mean taking my pupils out to play at community events as well as doing their own concerts. At City University, I can invite visiting artists to give classes in music and dance; I also bring in community groups like the Para铆so School of Samba and my students even run their own carnival parades.

Barak SchmoolI play with my professional groups in clubs in London, in dance and jazz venues like Vortex or the Spitz.

I run a group called Rhythms of the City, which is a performance and training group which is open to all music students and music teachers in London.

Above all, I play at carnival-style events where musicians, dancers and audience are all mixed up. I play at events like the Notting Hill Carnival, WOMAD, Rhythmsticks and Thames Festivals. I enjoy making music with lots of other people: other professionals, students, and the people you're dragging along in the street, who are dancing or singing to what you play.
