Listen听听Listen (4'14) to 'Man Shot Down' by Errol Linton's Blues Vibe from their album, Roots Stew (Ruby Records, 2002)

Errol was one of the artists featured in the World on your Street tent at WOMAD 2004

A favourite song:

It's about what's happening in London, in England, in the world... it's written about something close to home but I wouldn't want to go into it. It's a Brixton blues, that's all I'll say on it. I was definitely on a reggae-blues tip when I wrote it. I worked it out on guitar and harmonica. I work out a riff on either of them then muck around getting the song, mostly guitar recently but harmonica too. I just love the sound of harmonica. I don't know why it works so well with blues and reggae rather than with soul or rock. It's an instrument with a lot of expressive feeling so maybe it suits music about suffering and hard times. When I felt I had the song written I took it to rehearsal and it came together straight away, the guys just latched on to it. It was easy to record. At the session our bassist Jean-Pierre had to leave for some family stuff and then he came back on a later date and just laid his piece down like that. Nice an' easy.
