Where I Play:
I play every Monday night in a local Yorkshire inn which dates back to 1307. Several of us gather together and play whatever comes to mind. Often it's our English tunes but sometimes we'll play American , Swedish, Irish ,Scottish or even French.
The audience start off as the diners who have finished their meal and are about to go home. Some go home that bit quicker, but others have an extra drink and listen to us for a while. Later on, the late nighters come in for a quick pint before closing time. Standing in the adjoining bar, they occasionally applaud if we play a tune they particularly like, otherwise they carry on the serious business of socialising. They have to walk past us to get to the toilets, and they usually smile or make a witty remark as they pass. We take that as a form of approval.
Sometimes we get booked to play at a barn dance - a wedding or birthday party or fund raiser for a local school or scout group. It's good to get people dancing and the music works very well. As with all dance music, you should send the audience home tired but happy!
