A favourite song:
My favourite song is Baba Seckou. I asked my father who the founding father of our village was and whether there was any song about him and he sang me this song. In Africa we believe that the first person to do something is always lucky and Baba Seckou was a lucky man. My village is very peaceful and everybody - Christian and Muslim - gets on together which is why we celebrate Baba Seckou who taught the principles of respect for each other and for nature. When he was alive many years ago he planted coco, mango and orange trees because he knew people would come to this village and need food. You can still see these trees today.
The words of this song say: 'Father Seckou - you have your village with you, Father Seckou we all look to you, so you have to look after us'.
