A favourite song:

A song called ' A Northern Man,' which is on our first CD, best represents what the band is about. It's written by a friend of mine, Peter O'Hanlon who is from the Catholic/Nationalist tradition. I'm from the Protestant/Unionist tradition. Although these labels don't fit everyone, especially musicians, you are forced to put yourself into one of these tribes.

In the song, Peter had the idea of a Northern man being more important than being Catholic or Protestant or socialist or conservative or whatever. Living on the border between Northern Ireland/the UK and the Republic of Ireland is a challenging place to be. We are always challenged about who we are, what we are and what we believe.

The song goes; "I have always tried to form my thoughts freely/Free to decide that decisions must be made/And I'll change my mind if it's a lesson for me/I don't know how I'd learn if change left me afraid."

Societies are bound to go through change but it's the artists that pick up these changes first from wherever they come - the ether! Then they filter them through their own mindsets so it comes out in their work.
