What Shall We Do with the Ambridge Phone Box
by THEJennyDarling
There's been a outbreak of the McGonagalls on The Fantasy Archers topic of .
O beautiful and well revered, formerly useful red box from the old GPO
Which stood immortal on this spot, and always will remain so,
How sad your usefulness has gone, now that the populace
Have access to a mobile phone, or all talk face to face.
Your odour, redolent of smoke and chips and wee as well
Remind us of a former life, such is that pungent smell.
Your apparatus, often broke, yes I know it should say broken
But that would interfere at length with my poetry as spoken,
The penny slot jammed up with glue, the handset on the floor
And something rather niffy, keeps your handbag from the floor.
But do not let them take away this bastion of the land
Which shall not be wrested up, by gad, it still shall stand!
A monument to Ambridge, a place of refuge in a storm
Somewhere perhaps for Shula, a new mini church, so warm
Cos there's no congregation to disagree with her
She's just got room to bow the knee, with that I will concur!!
