5 May: Gales. My Man Grog d By His Own Hand. Sevl Cardinals poison'd by Jesuits in Verona. Turks at gates of Vienna again.

Won 5 sovs of Sir Oliver Foxbrush a-wagerg on the Assizes, though the sport was exceedg poor: Bart Bugle hang'd for stealg a turnip; Jos Knotweed transported for being a Papist; and Obd Odd whippt at cart's tail for consortg with gipsies.
Much concern'd abt Stepson Adam. Since he quarrel'd with innkpr abt I know not what, he has been much afflicted with the Melancholick Distemper and shows but little inclination to restore his Humours by going a-wenchg as wd have been my wont at his age. I fear he yet ails for sthg and requires further physick.
