Musicians' labels
Mark Lawson talks to conductor Sir John Eliot Gardiner, pianist Joanna MacGregor and composer Michael Nyman about their respective decisions to set up their own record labels.

Joanna MacGregor launched her label, SoundCircus, in 1997. John Eliot Gardiner has just gone into the record label business with his wife Isabella. The first releases on their SDG label are two live recordings from their musical pilgrimage, performing all of Bach Cantatas in the course of the year 2000 - the 250th anniversary of Bach's death. Michael Nyman will be launching his label, MN Records, on 28 March 2005 - with the release of his opera, Man and Boy

Following the news that the stage-version of The Sound of Music is to make its Austrian debut at the Volksoper in Vienna, Mark Lawson and the 大象传媒 Austrian correspondent Bethany Bell examine why the Broadway and Hollywood versions of the Von Trapp story are so little-known in Austria itself
