TOURISM AFTER THE TSUNAMI
5 February 2005
Presented by Sandi Toksvig
It is six weeks since the terrible tsunami which caused unprecedented loss of life and damage to so many countries.
Today those beaches are still being cleared of the terrible after effects of the tragedy. In many cases resorts are desperate to re-establish themselves, if ever these countries needed the injection of money which tourism brings, it is now.
So how well is that recovery likely to progress and as travellers how should we approach the difficult question of where to go and when?
Sandi's guests this week to discuss this are Frank Barratt, Travel Editor of the Mail on Sunday, Mark Ellingham, founder and publisher of Rough Guides and Keith Betton, from the Association of British Travel Agents.
She also talks to Catherine Leech, Managing Director of Carib Tours, Francois Huet, General Manager of the Banyan Tree Hotel in the Maldives, and Deirdre Bounds, Managing Director of 'I to I', a holiday company who are currently providing volunteer placements in Tsunami affected areas.
