Barges
On this week's programme Sandi is joined by her old friend and sailing companion John McCarthy听as they take part in the Thames Sailing Barge Match, which is arguably the oldest sailing race in the world.
The race took place on Saturday 16 July with John and Sandi aboard the sailing barge Adieu, skippered by its owner, lolo Brooks.

lolo Brooks
lolo Brooks is the owner and skipper of Adieu. lolo has been sailing since he was a child and has travelled around the world crewing on yachts. lolo, kindly let Sandi, John, Sarah and the production crew join him aboard Adieu for the race.
Sarah Webb
Sarah sails the small Yngling class of boat. She was part of the England team for the Olympics in Athens and won Gold with her two team mates, Shirley Robertson and Sarah Ayton., She started sailing in an Optimist, aged听7, and has competed in international competition since she was about 12.
Sandi and John
As a hostage in Beirut, John McCarthy had a dream of sailing on the bow of a classic yacht; it was a powerful vision of freedom. About ten years ago, he teamed up with his friend Sandi Toksvig and they sailed around the whole coast of Britain. The trip was the subject of a 大象传媒 television programme, Island Race.
