Hiroshima
On the 60th anniversary of one of the most notorious bombings in history.听 Sandi is discussing the legacy of that event on the vibrant modern Japanese city of Hiroshima.

Hiroko Kawanami

Hiroko is an anthropology lecturer in religious studies at Lancaster University.听Hiroko visited Hiroshima just over 3 years ago.

Stephen Walker

Stephen read modern history at Oxford and went on to receive a master's at Harvard.听 He has directed over twenty documentary films for the 大象传媒 and Channel Four, including Prisoners in Time, starring John Hurt.听 His films have won numerous awards including an Emmy, a BAFTA and Europe's most prestigious television prize, the Rose D'Or at Montreux.

Stephen wrote 'Shockwave: The Countdown to Hiroshima'听published by John Murray, ISBN 0719566258, which accompanies the film.

Hugh Thomson

Hugh听read English at Cambridge University and worked briefly as a lecturer at Bristol University before becoming a film-maker.听 His films for television include the 大象传媒's Great Journeys series about Cortez's invasion of Mexico and a series on India presented by William Dalrymple.

Hugh's book: ' Nanda Devi: A Journey to the last sanctuary', published by Phoenix, ISBN 0753818477

Nanda Devi is a mountain in India on the border with Tibet.听 It is the highest mountain in India and historically therefore once held the title of being the highest point in the British empire.听For Indians Nanda Devi is a very sacred place. Nanda Devi is the wife of Shiva, and Hugh says he was very conscious that this is the heartland of the hindu gods.
