THE ADVENTURER’S SPIRIT IN THE FACE OF ADVERSITY

John McCarthy
explores the nature of motivation in the face of danger and difficulty.Ìý What is the spirit that drives people on in spite of extreme conditions?Ìý Where does their resolve come from?
John also asks, whether success is achieved or not, was it all worth it?

In 2001 Benedict Allen and his teams of dogs took on the challenge of crossing the frozen Bering Straits; some years earlier Rebecca Stephens was the first British woman to climb Everest; while in 2004 for an altogether different purpose Jo Gambi and her husband Rob battled with illness while ascending some of the world’s highest mountains.

Benedict tells his adventures and survival in the remotest corner of Siberia in his book Into the Abyss – Explorers on the Edge of Survival.
