Listen to Excess Baggage for
17听November 2007
and听
In August a small company in Glasgow started the first city-based sea plane service for decades, offering regular trips from the River Clyde to Oban, and has already won the thistle award for innovation.听 John McCarthy talks to the owner, Captain David West about the seaplane as a mode of transport and whether it will revive an interest in flying boats in the UK.
Margaret O鈥橲haughnessy, the curator of Foynes Flying Boat Museum in Limerick talks about the historical significance of the flying boat; and enthusiast Lance Cole, one of a handful of people who have flown a Catalina flying boat in Africa, recounts his experience of retracing the old Imperial flying boat route and reminisces about his many adventures on this unique form on transport in Africa.
