Sandi Toksvig is in conversation with Paul Theroux, one of the world鈥檚 foremost travel writers.听 Paul talks about his life, some memorable travel experiences and discusses his latest book Ghost Train to the Eastern Star a rerun of a trip he had originally made more than thirty years earlier.

This week's guest:
was born in Massachusetts, he began his writing career in the late sixties, going on to author several novels.听 Paul鈥檚 first travel book The Great Railway Bazaar was published in 1975.听 This account of a journey by train across Asia was both critically and publicly acclaimed.听 Paul wrote about more train journeys through South America on The Old Patagonian Express, across India in The Imperial Way, from Europe to China in Riding the Iron Rooster and from Cairo to Cape Town in Dark Star Safari. He also went Sailing Through China and kayaking round The Happy Isles of Oceania as well as travelling round the British coast in Kingdom by the Sea.
Paul Theroux has also lived in many parts of the world, including the UK, Singapore and Malawi.听 He now divides his time between Hawaii, where he keeps bees, and Cape Cod.听 Paul has continued to write equally successful novels, some of which, including The Mosquito Coast and Half Moon Street, were made into films.
