John McCarthy is joined by Justin Francis, managing director of Responsible Travel and television presenter and traveller, Kate Humble to discuss what sustainable travel really means.Ìý Is it possible to travel fairly, sensibly and even creatively?

Justin Francis is the Managing Director of .Ìý Justin thinks that we need to balance the positives of good tourism with the negatives of damage to the environment and at the same time be realistic about what we can do: ‘Big’ holidays in moderation, more local holidays and holidays by train for example.Ìý HeÌýbelieves that ‘sustainable’ means making a positive impact on a community or place and travelling in the most environmentally friendly way possible as well as giving local people a voice and a partnership with travel operators.
is the well known presenter of television programmes Springwatch, Autumnwatch, Animal Park and Rough Science. Kate is also an enthusiastic traveller, passionate about conservation and the environment. Kate thinks sustainable tourism can be big and small, can be just eating in the local pub when you go on holiday to, say, Wales. Kate runs a website encouraging charitable giving to help local communities people may visit while on holiday.
is a photographer based in New Delhi and his photography has taken him to many places. He has photographed for several national magazines in India and worked with the Indian state tourism departments. Amit is the photographer of his recently published book Monumental India which tells the story of some of Northern India’s architecture from its Hindu and Jain Temples to the Islamic tombs and mosques and Buddhist monasteries.
