Libby Purves presents this week's edition of the Learning Curve
English 21
This huge consultation launched by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority last February asked if we need to change the way English is taught in our schools and colleges - looking at the whole of the Curriculum from ages 3-19. The consultation is now over. Guests to discuss this are Sue Horner from the QCA, in charge of English 21 and Dr Bethan Marshall - Lecturer in English Education at Kings College London, and expert in the English curriculum.
Feedback: Apprenticeships
Libby talks to Stephen Gardner, Director of work based learning at the Learning and Skills Council about the issues raised by our caller last week.
Active citizenship through song
This autumn The Learning and Skills development agency launched a competition to find young, talented songwriters who can create engaging lyrics on the issues that matter to today's teenagers. The inspiration for the competition came from rap performer Kenneth During, a former citizenship student from Richmond-upom-Thames. Libby speaks to him about his involvement with the competition and Kenneth performs one of his raps.听
ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder)
Libby looks at a disorder that one in 20 children in Britain is said to have - ADD and ADHD (attention deficit disorder/attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) - and ask how the needs of these children can best be met in school.
Guests: Professor Loretta Giorcelli, worldwide expert and educational consultant and Andrea Bilbow, director and founder of ADDISS
