CHILDREN IN CARE AND EDUCATION
This month a new law, the Children and Young Person鈥檚 Bill begin's its听Report Stage in the House of Lords, and key parts will attempt to remedy the terrible educational prospects for the 60,000 children in care. The statistics are telling: a quarter of all prisoners have been in care; only 8 percent of children in care achieve five of more A-C grades at GCSE; and more than a third of cared for children are not even entered for a GCSE. Sara Parker spoke to two teenagers who had been in care since they were 8.

75TH ANNIVERSARY OF CARA - COUNCIL FOR ASSISTING REFUGEE ACADEMICS
The British charity that has helped to support hundreds of persecuted academics, since 1933 (the year Hitler became Chancellor of Germany) is 75 years old this year. It has been key in the international effort to rescue scholars from repressive regimes. In the run-up to the Second World War, the agency worked hard to raise political awareness about the threat to Eastern European intellectuals and provide funds for those academics who had to flee persecution. Anna McNamee spoke to the oldest surviving direct beneficiary of their work, the comedian Ben Elton's father, Lewis Elton.听 His father head been a听professor in Prague in 1939; to Richard Gombrich, son of the renowned Austrian-British art historian Ernst Gombrich; and to a former lecturer in Libya who was arrested after she publicly criticised Ghadaffi.
