4 March 2005

Clare is in Warwickshire for the second programme, walking in the company of children's writer Meg Harper. Meg's main reason for walking is for prayer and contemplation. Meg explains why the countryside offers her more spiritual inspiration than most churches

From All Saints Church (which is built with ironstone and has its characteristic orange glow) Clare and Meg take a narrow footpath through to fields that pass by King's Stile where Charles 1st was believed to have rested. Crossing the B4525, which runs through between Banbury and Northampton, they move into a potato field which is filled with the aroma of a near by coffee factory. Just to the right lies a municipal golf course which is crossed to reach a small area of woodland which then leads onto a small road and a field with donkeys. Here the walk passes by the edge of Chacombe House and takes a detour to see the 12th century priory. Chacombe is well-known amongst bell-ringers as the home of Hugh Bagley a renowned bell maker. His grave is in the church yard there, as is that of one of the survivors of the Charge of the Light Brigade. The Jurassic Way is then picked up just by Silver Street with views across fields and pockets of woodland. From here the walk moves on to Wardington Manor , a house recently damaged by a huge fire where villagers worked together to rescue treasures. The walk ends at Cropredy at the site of the civil war's Battle of Cropredy Bridge and the annual Cropredy Festival.
