Tony Allison noticed some strange goings-on in the lounge shortly after his father's death...
Tony Allison and his father were very close. Every Thursday night they would go out for a chat and a few pints. So when his father was diagnosed with lung cancer, he moved in with Tony and his family.
A few weeks after his father's death in 1991, Tony was in the kitchen when his son came in to tell him that the television had suddenly switched itself on. Tony quipped that "perhaps it was his granddad come back to see Tomorrow's World" - one of his father's favourite programmes.
But on looking at the television listings, he noticed that there was actually a programme on called Voices from the Past. "That was a bit creepy, a remarkable coincidence" he says. Tony calculated that it was 90,000 minutes since his father's death. "I suppose some people might think it was a message coming through". This was the first time the television switched itself on.
A few weeks later, Tony was up late at night. The rest of the family had gone to bed. Tony suddenly became aware of voices coming from the lounge. To his amazement, the television was on. "The face on the screen was one of my father's great favourites, Patrick Moore, The Sky At Night". He says, "I thought, not only has he again managed to switch the TV on, but he's also learned to pick out his own programmes".
But Tony didn't really think it was some kind of spirit influence. He says, "Following the death of my father, it was a warm thought to keep in my mind, as long as it didn't do any harm".
The sudden coming on of the television is still something that happens from time to time. About a year ago, he moved the television into the living room. This time he noticed that the television not only switched itself on, but also switched itself off again. This was the last time it happened. Tony concluded that his dad had decided to move on.
