Jo is the first to admit that she's not the most politically active of people. Her daughter Anna is.

A trip to the supermarket with 16-year-old Anna is a minefield for the ethically lazy buyer. Coffee, tuna, apples, kitchen towels, not to mention kumquats, must be inspected for their country of origin and method of production. There is nothing half-hearted about the passions and beliefs of the young.

Jo is proud of her daughter, though. She's a girl who'll stand up and be counted - when she's not writing to Tony Blair, or bending a supermarket's ear about their profit margin on bananas, or painting a placard, or...
