Dinner Lady Man

John Graham dishes up male influence in a female world...
John Graham Dinner Gentleman
|
Already used to being a man in what is traditionally perceived as a woman's world, househusband, John Graham took his gender journey one step further. He applied to become a dinner lady at his children's school in the small village of Wrington in Somerset.
Adopting a red coat instead of the tabard (I'm not wearing that!) worn by the other dinner staff, John took up his post.
The children find it both normal and slightly strange to have a male dinner lady - or dinner gentleman as John now calls himself. One child admitted that she sometimes calls him Mrs Graham instead of Mr Graham. Another thinks it's nice, but is a little puzzled because men usually have jobs involving suitcases and bowties.
In the kitchen, a man about the saucepans has gone down well. The teaching staff are also happy to have John around, although they did have to put him right after the first week. Concerned that the children might find him a bit fierce, he allowed them to eat only what they liked. But rules is rules, and now the crusts have to go too.
John's 6-year-old son, Luke loves the opportunity to cuddle his dad during the day. The dissenting voice is left to John's daughter, 9-year-old Martha. Her friends tell her her dad is bossy. Sounding a touch world weary she says, "I could do without it!"
