The Gomersalls
One of John's favourite charities was The Salvation Army. According to Sheila听this stemmed from a wretched spell of National Service - at perhaps the lowest ebb in his life - when the sympathetic support offered by the听Sally Army听to young conscripts at his camp in North Wales provided him with a vital lifeline.听
听
John would probably听have been delighted to encounter the Gomersall family from Sheila's home town in Shipley, Yorkshire.听The Gomersalls are听three generations of Salvationists with just the one dropout to date.
