In 1934 Bernadette was diagnosed with Gender Dysphoria a condition which听in those days听was barely heard of never mind understood.
Her parents were听advised听by medical professionals听to "make a man of him" or he would become homosexual.听It was another 54 years before she could start to obtain treatment. She听explains to David Stafford听how the condition affected her.听
