Endurance
Listen to the item
Fergus Maclay and William Thyne were two young men in the prime of their lives. These bright and energetic boys had a lust for life - they were keen sportsmen and promising students. So when Fergus contracted leukaemia and then died at the age of just 18 Will decided to do something in memory of his pal and started a sponsored rickshaw ride which would cover the length of the UK. But part-way through the endeavour, Will also became ill. He was 22 when he lost his fight against osteosarcoma, a rare form of cancer.
The remains of a circle of very close friends - Charlie, Sami, Tommy, Beatle and Angus decided they must do something special in memory of their two young friends. Home Truths reporter Rosie Garthwaite joined them for 'Endurance Week'.
