Last week we broadcast an interview with Valerie Skinner, who had found two letters hidden in a dresser in her house in France. One was from a soldier’s mother complaining about the soldier’s heavily pregnant young bride. The other was the soldier’s reply, never posted.
The date was 2nd July 1917 – a few weeks before Passchendaele. The soldier’s name was Charles E. Bradbury, and we knew he was from St Helen’s in Lancashire and had trained with the West Lancs Reserves.
Did he survive? And were there any surviving relatives?
