Giselle Peason-Gee

Derek and Giselle

Listen to the item

Giselle – sometimes called G – is the latest in the long line of old ladies we’ve been hearing about in recent weeks, who took to their beds. When Derek Taylor was a student in the early 70s, his pal Carl - who kept bees - was called out to remove a swarm from a bungalow near Norwich. It was the home of Giselle Pearson-Gee, then in her seventies.

So impressed was Derek by Carl’s account of Giselle’s conversation and charisma, that he paid her a visit and their mutual love of literature led to a close and remarkable friendship.
