I inherited a computer from my father, a friend gave me a modem and off I went! Never in a million years did I realise it would change my life. I was being very sad one evening surfing away, when suddenly I got a message from another user of my internet provider.
I immediately read his personal profile and found that he lived in the Channel Islands and he was very boring as well so I thought that sounds quite safe so we had a chat. After that we'd chat daily, rushing home from work and get straight onto the computer and spend the next 2 hours chatting away.
You don't put your home address on these things and with Ian being in Jersey, there was no danger of him turning up on my doorstep. You can get a real feel for someone's personality by what they write - you fall in love with their personality rather than how they look - that comes afterwards.
Ian sent details to me proving he was who he said he was and two of my girlfriends chatted to him online. We eventually exchanged phone numbers and photographs and finally met in January 1998 at Heathrow Airport. My first words to him were, "what are you doing next weekend?" I'd already booked a ticket back to Jersey because I felt so confident that we'd get on.
We knew so quickly that we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together and we got engaged on the 20th Feb just a month after meeting face-to-face and got married in October. I've moved to Jersey, sold my flat, car and moved lock, stock and barrel to Jersey and I'm loving every minute of it.
