Pointless Games

Last week, one of our contributors fondly recalled his late wife's method of finding her way when lost - keep turning left. Phil Preen's memory was stirred and from the depths came the recollection of game he played at school. Over to you, Phil...

"The game was called quite simply Turning Left, and involved walking in a straight line until you hit an obstacle, and then you immediately turned left. You then continued in a straight line again until the next obstacle. I often used to get stuck in a corridor with doors at each end, waiting for some-one to hold the door open for me. Worse still was to find yourself heading into a stair well, where you knew you could get trapped for ever. The only way out was to attract the attention of someone on the stairs, and ask them to come and stand in front of you, so that you could walk into them and then turn left. For some reason not everyone seemed willing to help out in this way. The problem can be alleviated by changing the rules, so that you alternate - turning first left then right, instead of just turning left. However, I feel this variation lacks the purity of the original."

Have you, your family or friends invented a pointless game?
When is the game played and what reactions does it provoke from those involved?
What are the rules & how do you know when someone's won?
