Unforgettable?
Maggie Hall emailed Home Truths with her elaborate memory-jogger ...
"I always find the colouring of the wiring in electrical plugs very confusing and fundamentally all wrong. Brown should be earth, yellow and green should be live, and blue is a sort of cool neutral colour. Of course, whoever designed the wire colour coding of electric plugs was not a logical person- they want to blow people up or, at least, shock them across the room. So as I approach a plug, I remember brown is NOT Earth but rather it's where life is grown, therefore it鈥檚 Live. Green and yellow are the colours of sand and trees. Hence they are the world, and the colour of earth, so that鈥檚 Earth. And blue - well blue's whatever's left over!"
What mnemonic do you use to help you recall things you find confusing or impossible to remember?
Did you make it up, or is it a fragment from schoolday memorabilia!?
Have you ever got your own mnemonic in a muddle - what were the consequences?
