Matthew Bannister tells the life stories of people who have died recently. This week: Rosamond Carr, Henri Jayer, Joel Blamey and Tom Bell.
Rosamond Carr
American who founded a Rwandan orphanage in her 80s has died aged 94.
Rosamond Carr arrived in Africa in 1949. She bought a 270-acre flower plantation called Mugongo and moved into an ivy-covered stone cottage and planted a formal English garden.
Rosamond Carr had been living in Rwanda for more than four decades when the Rwandan genocide began in April 1994. She decided to transform her flower shed into a refuge for orphaned children.
Matthew Bannister talks to Rosamond Carr's friend Charlene Jendry, Fredrick who went to Roz's orphanage and Ann Howard Halsey, Roz's neice, who co-wrote Roz's autobiography ' Land of a Thousand Hills: My Life in Rwanda' extracts of which are read by Liza Ross.
Rosamond Carr was born in New Jersey in 1912 . She died on September 29th 2006.
Henri Jayer Purist Wine Maker who has died aged 84.
Henri Jayer was known as the pope of Burgundy because he made some of the world鈥檚 most sought after wines. He had a purposefully small vineyard and produced only three hundred cases a year. Now some of these cases cost more than twenty thousand pounds.

Henri Jayer was born on the 2nd February 1922.听He died on the 20th September 2006.听
Lieutentant Joel Blamey
DSC, DSM Submarine engineer who has died aged 101.
Lieutenant Joel Blamey served on board British submarines for twenty eight years. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal and the Distinguished Service Cross for his work as a Chief Engine Room Artificer during the Second World War.

Lietentant Joel Blamey was born on the 9th October 1904. He听died 10th September 2006.
Tom Bell Actor who has died aged 73.
Tom Bell was probably best known for his role in the films The Krays and Wish You Were Here and for the part of Detective Sergeant Bill Otley in Prime Suspect.
His career spanned more than forty years and he specialised in sinister and threatening characters.
