John La Rose Poet and political activist who has died aged 78.
Having arrived in Britain from Trinidad in 1961, John La Rose established the Caribbean artists movement and the first Caribbean publishing house in Britain 'New Beacon Books'.听 He used this as a base for encouraging the community around him to campaign upon a range of issues including policing policy and for a more inclusive education system. He set up the George Padmore supplementary school and听ran it in his own home to begin with.
His son Michael La Rose, the publisher Margaret Busby and Gus John, former head of Education in Hackney and a director of the George Padmore Institute, met Matthew Bannister at the Institute above the New Beacon bookshop in North London.
