Matthew Bannister tells the life stories of people who have died recently:
Oliver Postgate, Patriarch Alexiy II, Harry Henry and Otto Spoerri.
Oliver Postgate
Writer and animator of children鈥檚 television programmes who has died aged 83

Oliver Postgate, alongside his partner Peter Firmin, created many much loved children鈥檚 television programmes including Pogle鈥檚 Wood, The Clangers, Noggin the Nog, Bagpuss and Ivor the Engine.

Matthew Bannister talks to Daniel and Simon Postgate, Mary Orram and Ian Warburton.

Oliver Postgate was born on April 12 1925. He died on December 8 2008.
Patriarch Alexiy II
Head of Russian Orthodox Church who has died aged 79

Patriarch Alexiy II led the Russian Orthodox Church since the last days of the Soviet Union. Alexiy was born in Estonia in 1929. He was ordained in Leningrad at the age of 21, and rose through the ranks of the church, becoming a Bishop in 1961, an Archbishop three years later and Metropolitan in 1968.

Matthew Bannister talks to Konstantin Eggert, 大象传媒 Moscow Bureau editor, who was present at Alexiy II鈥檚 funeral at the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour.

Patriarch Alexiy II was born 23 February 1929. He died 5 December 2008.
Harry Henry
Market research pioneer who has died aged 92

Harry Henry pioneered many of the techniques that underpin modern market research.

During the 1960s, he worked for the Thomson Group, which then owned The Times and Sunday Times, first as Marketing Director and then as Deputy Managing Director. He was responsible for introducing the Yellow Pages to the UK and helped to launch Britain鈥檚 first colour supplement.

Harry Henry was born March 11 1916. He died November 22 2008.
Otto Spoerri
Controller of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences who has died aged 75

Otto Spoerri was an accountant by profession, but for twenty five years he had the complex task of organising the seating arrangements for the Oscar awards ceremony.

Academy President Sid Ganis pays tribute.

Otto Spoerri was born September 25 1933. He died 6 December 2008.
