Jane Little tells the life stories of people who have died recently. This week: Francis Cammaerts, Abbye Stockton, Dorothy Hayden Truscott, Dame June Lloyd and Syd Barrett.
Francis Cammaerts
SOE agent who has died aged 90.
Francis Cammaerts was a conscientious objector who became a member of the Special Operations Executive in charge of organising a large network of members of the French Resistance to sabotage communciations as the Germans advanced.
After the war he returned to the teaching profession and was responsible for helping modernise the training of teachers in Britain and for setting up a series of schools in Kenya and Botswana . He retired to France where he died.

Abbye Stockton
World's first major female bodybuilder who has died aged 88.
Abbye Stockton's childhood nickname "Pudgy" was ironic because听she became one of the most famous faces of Muscle Beach in Santa Monica . It was Abbye who organised the first Amateur weightlifting competition for women in 1947 and wrote a column in Strength and Health magazine from 1944 to 1954. One of her many feats included the "high press" in which she lifted a 100-pound barbell over her head while balancing atop her husband's hands.
This was the 1940s when women did not tend to wear two piece bathing suits and wow crowds with their amazing strength. Measuring under 5 foot 2 inches tall and weighing around 115 pounds with blonde hair and a听tiny waist Abbye appeared on the front cover of more than 40 magazines.听
World听record breaking weightlifter Professor Jan Todd, from the Department of Kinesiology and Health Education at the University of Texas -听former muscle beach acrobat听Paula Boelsems and fitness guru Jack La Lanne all pay tribute to the Queen of Muscle Beach.
Abbye Stockton was born on August 11th 1917. She died on June 26 th 2006.
Dorothy Hayden Truscott
Champion bridge player who has died aged 80.
Dorothy Hayden Truscott was a Grand Master at bridge. Her parents taught her how to play when she was seven years old and she went on to win four world titles and more than two dozen national championships. In 1966 she became the only woman to win a medal at the open pairs.听

Dorothy wrote two best-selling bridge books, "Winning Declarer Play" (1969) and "Bid Better, Play Better" (1970).

Dame June Lloyd who has died aged 78.
June Lloyd - who became Lady Lloyd of Highbury - dedicated her life to caring for sick children. She researched metabolic disorders and vitamin E and became the first woman President of the British Paediatric Association.
Dr Patricia Hamilton is the current President of what is now called the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health and Dr Tim Chambers is a colleague and friend.
Dame June was appointed to chair the Nuffield Council on Bioethics which produced a major report in December 1993.
Professor Elizabeth Anionwu was one of the members of that committee.
June Kathleen Lloyd was born on January 1 st 1928 and died on June 28 th 2006.
Syd Barrett
Founder member of Pink Floyd who has died aged 60.
