Rudolf Vrba Who escaped from the Nazi death camps at Auschwitz and who has died aged 81.
In June 1942 Rudolf Vrba was sent to Auschwitz . He was assigned to the slave labour unit that handled the property of those who had been gassed. In April 1944, he escaped with his friend, Alfred Wetzler. They wrote a 32 page report giving compelling details of what was happening at Auschwitz and warning that preparations were underway for the murder of nearly 800,000 Hungarian Jews.
We hear about how he escaped from an extract of his book 'The Escape', read by听Tom Durham. Matthew is also joined by political scientist, Michael Pinto-Duschensky, whose own life was intimately affected by these events and from Rudolf Vrba's friend and colleague, Professor James Conway.
Rudolf Vrba was born on the 11th September 1924. He died on the 26th March 2006.

Arthur Winston Who retired only last month at the age of 100.
Arthur Winston missed just one day of work in more than 70 years听at the听Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority and that was to attend his wife's funeral in 1988. In 1996, President Bill Clinton awarded him with an "Employee of the Century".

Bobby Nudie Self-proclaimed original Rhinestone Cowgirl who has died aged 92.
Bobby Nudie and her husband Nudie Cohn were the sparkling tailors to the stars. Their clients included Elvis Presley, Roy Rogers, John Wayne, Robert Mitchum, Gram Parsons, Elton John and even Ronald Reagan. The firm's motto was "it's better to be looked over than overlooked". One of their most famous designs was a ten thousand dollar gold lame suit for Elvis Presley which made the cover of Rolling Stone magazine.
Joining Matthew is Bobbie's grand daughter, Jamie Lee Nudie and Mary Lynn Cabrall who together wrote 'The Life and Times of the Original Rhinestone Cowboy'.
Bobbie Nudie was the nickname her husband gave her. She was born Helen Kruger on the 29th July 1913. She died on the 7th April 2006.

Walter "Puggy" Pearson Gambler who has died aged 77.
The colourful professional gambler who won the poker world series in 1973, having come up with the idea of the "freeze out tournament" the year before. He is the only man known to have been present as a competitor or spectator at the final tables of all 37 subsequent contests.
Matthew is joined by professional gambler, Stewart Reuben, who was one of "Puggy" Pearson's opponents and author of "Poker 24/7".

Sir Roy Denman
Diplomat who has died aged 81.
Sir Roy Denman was part of the team that negotiated Britain's entry into the European Common Market in 1973.
Former British ambassador to the United Nations, Sir Crispin Tickell who worked with Sir Roy Denman shares his memories of his former colleague.
