Matthew Bannister tells the life stories of people who have died recently. This week: Ellen Kuzwayo, Peter Cadbury,Alida Valli, June Knox-Mawer and Brian Daley, aka DJ Swing.
Ellen Kuzwayo听 Apartheid campaigner, writer and politician who听has died aged 91.
Ellen Kuzwayo joined Nelson Mandela and Walter Sisulu in founding the militant ANC Youth League and became its President in the 1960s. After the 1976 Soweto uprising, Ellen was the only woman elected to the 'committee of ten' set up to organise the township's affairs. In 1986 she published her autobiography: "Call Me Woman".

Ellen Kate Kuzwayo was born on 29th June 1914. She died on the 19th April 2006.
Peter Cadbury Businessman who founded Westward Television who has died aged 88.
Before his business career, Peter Cadbury trained as a test pilot for the early jet fighters at the end of the Second World War. After the war he read for the Bar and played a minor role in the Nuremberg War Crimes Tribunal. However, he decided that the law wasn't for him and bought the theatre ticket agency Keith Prowse in 1954 and set up the television company Westward Television which was based in Plymouth.
In 1980 Peter Cadbury was involved in a boardroom battle at Westward TV and his former colleague Harry Turner remembers the effects of that tussle for power and his flamboyant personality.
Peter Egbert Cadbury was born on the 6th February 1918. He died on the 17th April 2006.
Alida Valli Italian actress who has died aged 84
David Willey files a report from Rome on the Italian film actress Alida Valli - who starred alongside Joseph Cotten and Orson Welles in 'The Third Man'.听听听 Her career spans the Italian film industry and we hear from her son Carlo who followed her into the acting profession and from Italian film critic Irene Bignardi.听
Alida Maria Laura Altenburger was born on the听31st May 1921. She died on the听22nd April 2006.听

June Knox-Mawer Radio 4 presenter who has died aged 75.
June Knox-Mawer was the presenter of Woman's Hour as well as many radio documentaries. She was also a respected writer and drew on her experiences of living in Aden, where her husband was Chief Magistrate and then Fiji where he was Acting Chief Justice, to produce lively travel diaries and novels.
We hear her reading from one of them on a Radio 4 programme 'One Woman's Arabia'.
June Knox-Mawer was born on the 10th May 1930. She died of cancer on the 19th April 2006.
Brian Daley aka DJ Swing Musician who has died of cancer aged 39.
听
