Matthew Bannister
Matthew Bannister听tells the life stories of people who have died recently. This week: Ted Grant, Ta Mok, Dorothea Towles Church, Sir Peter Masefield and Maurice Bevan.
Ted Grant听
Militant who has died aged 93.听

Ted Grant was the founder and ideological force behind Militant Tendency - a Marxist Group which infiltrated the Labour Party in the 1970s and 80s.

He was born Isaac Blank in South Africa but in听order to protect his family being associated with his political activities听he adopted the name of one of听the crew members during his voyage to Britain.

Matthew Bannister talks to Alan Woods who worked with him at Militant,听Diane Hayter, member of Labour's NEC who was on the disciplinary committee which investigated Militant Tendency and to Michael Crick journalist and author of the book "March of the Militant".听

Ted Grant was born July 9th 1913. He听died July 20th 2006.听
Ta Mok
Military leader of the Khmer Rouge.

Ta Mok was known in the international press at "the Butcher". He was the military commander when the Khmer Rouge killed almost two million people during their reign of terror in the 1970s. For the past seven years he had been in jail awaiting trail on charges of genocide and crimes against humanity.

Guy Delaney reports from Cambodia on the contrasting responses to his death between the urban and rural population in Cambodia .

Ta Mok was born in 1926. He died July 21st 2006.
Dorothea Towles Church
Black model who has died aged 83.

Dorothea T Church was the first successful Black model in Paris. In the 1950s Black women were never seen modelling clothes. Designers were worried it might offend their white clients. Dorothea听changed all that and she became a role model for a generation of young Black women.

Matthew Bannister talks to 70s model Barbara Summers who wrote "Black and Beautiful" 1998 and Norma Jean Darden a former model in the 60s.听

Dorothea T Church was born July 26th 1922. She died July 7th 2006.

Sir Peter Masefield
Aviation expert who has died aged 91.

Sir Peter Masefield had an extraordinary career in aviation. He designed aircraft, flew them (both in peace and in war), wrote about them, organised them and built them. He was Chief Executive of British European Airways and the first chairman of the British Airports Authority. His love of transport also extended to spending two years in the early 1980s as the Chairman and Chief Executive of London Transport.

Sir Charles Masefield joins Matthew Bannister following his father's memorial service last Monday.

Peter Gordon Masefield was born on March 19 th 1914. he died on February 14th 2006.

Maurice Bevan听
Baritone who has died aged 85.

Maurice Bevan was听a baritone with the Deller Consort and regular contributor to the 大象传媒 Home Service's programme 'Listen With Mother'.

We hear archive of Maurice Bevan singing 'The House That Jack Built' on Listen With Mother in 1955.听

Maurice Bevan was born March 10th 1921.听He听died June 20th 2006.
