| | | | HUMAN GIVENS Dr Raj Persaud talks to Joe Griffin co-author of Human Givens: A New Approach to Emotional Health and Clear Thinking, a new book which turns the traditional way of treating depression on its head. Dr Persaud finds out why Joe Griffin believes that depression can be cured in as little as a day and why he believes that psychotherapy and counselling can actually worsen depression.听 Nick Temple, chief executive of the Tavistock Clinic and the Portman Clinic in London defends the effectiveness of psychotherapy and psychoanalysis.
EXTREME SPORTS This week British diver Tanya Streeter pushed human achievement deeper when she became the first person to dive 400 feet and resurface unaided. Dr Raj Persaud asks Professor Ian Maynard, sports psychologist at Sheffield Hallam University about the processes sports people have to go through before they can conquer their fears to achieve such feats of endurance.
DEPERSONALIZATION Professor Anthony David and colleagues at the Institute of Psychiatry in London have conducted the largest study of its kind on a little know brain disorder called depersonalization.
This is characterised by sufferers feeling that they don鈥檛 exist, that they are almost like an actor or puppet in a play and it has been described as one of the most unpleasant of mental conditions. Dr Raj Persaud finds out about the disorder鈥檚 symptoms from 23 year old Maninder who started experiencing depersonalization a year ago and discusses the results of the survey when he meets Anthony David, Professor of Cognitive Neuropsychiatry.
