"I spend half my week practising medicine and the other half writing and talking about it as a GP in Gloucestershire. Working on Case Notes has been a boon for both me and my patients. One of the principal aims of the programme is to keep our listeners up-to-date with the latest developments in healthcare, and to accomplish that I get to interview a wide range of specialists at the cutting edge of medicine. A rare privilege that ensures our listeners aren't the only ones to learn something new."

Emergency Medicine
In this edition of Case Notes, Dr Mark Porter spends the day with the Great Western Ambulance service in Gloucestershire.
He finds out what it's like to be a paramedic, and what kind of care the ambulance service provides.
Mark visits someone with a suspected heart attack and the scene of a road traffic accident as he joins paramedic Chris Turner and technician Becky Wilson on their calls.
He also gets to see inside an air ambulance, something that's invaluable in counties like Gloucestershire, where it can reach the scene of an accident much more quickly than an ambulance on the road.
And team leader Ceri Smart explains the role of the ECP, or Emergency Care Practitioner.听
ECPs work alone, travelling to emergencies in a car rather than an ambulance.
They arrive on the scene to assess the situation, and provide treatment to a patient听on the spot where possible, so a trip to hospital isn't always necessary.
Case Notes returns in April
