"Nature is full of surprises, so the programme can investigate fascinating and challenging areas in our relations with the natural world without being too technical or preachy. My job is brilliant because, as a link between the listener and the subject, I can discover new information and ideas which help people make up their own minds on important issues."

The Extinction of Experience
In Nature this week, Paul Evans asks whether we, and in particular our children, are becoming unconnected with the natural world. Talking to conservationists and educationalists, he discovers that the opportunities for playing in wild places and discovering wildlife are dwindling for many children. Worries about safety, parental control, tidying of towns and the decline of natural history teaching in schools seem to be contributing to a reduction in contact with wildlife.
Having assessed the scale of the problem, Paul visits a new housing development in Peterborough which aims to help children ,and their parents rediscover wildlife on their doorsteps.
