The Pond |
The story of the pond is fictional but based on fact. The series follows the life of a single pond, from its creation in Anglo-Saxon England to its destruction in the 21 st Century. Three wildlife experts; Trevor Beebee (Professor of Molecular Ecology at the University of Sussex), Mike Dilger (Naturalist and Researcher with the 大象传媒 Natural History Unit) and Steven Head (Director of the Ponds Conservation Trust) join Peter to unfold the history and natural history of the Oxfordshire pond.
Using specially-placed microphones to record the sounds of wildlife in and around the pond, the series is also an immersive listen, capturing the sounds of the changing seasons and the mood of the pond above and below the water. The wildlife sound recordist is Chris Watson.
There are currently estimated to be about 400,000 ponds in Britain, but some three-quarters (more than a million) of Britain's ponds have been lost over the last hundred years. Ponds are a unique biodiversity resource, an important part of our history and culture, a visual focus in many landscapes and an amenity for many communities.
This series offers not only a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the magic of the acoustic world of the pond and its frogs, but also highlights the unique nature of ponds and their importance to our landscape and wildlife heritage.
