"For me science isn't a subject, it's a perspective. There are fascinating scientific aspects to everything from ancient history to the latest gadgets, outer space to interior decorating; and each week on The Material World we try to reflect the excitement, ideas, uncertainties, collisions and collaborations as science continues its never-ending voyage into the unknown".

Blood Brain barrier on Material World |
Blood Brain Barrier
The Blood Brain Barrier is an extraordinary mechanism.
Its听been known about for well over 100 years but it鈥檚 only in the last 10 or 15 years that researchers have started to get an idea of the Blood Brain Barrier's听role in diseases like MS, Alzheimer鈥檚 or Parkinson鈥檚.
Quentin Cooper is joined by Professor Joan Abbott, Blood Brain Barrier group, King鈥檚 College, University of London and Professor Sanjay Sisodiya, Institute of Neuroscience, University College, University of London to find out more.
The Domesday Book and Dead Sea Scrolls
The Domesday Book and Dead Sea Scrolls are written on parchment which is made from animal skin.
This skin can degrade and turn into collagen losing the writings for ever.
Quentin Cooper meets Professor Tim Weiss, Head of School of Optometry and Vision Sciences, Cardiff University.
He is using powerful x-rays to examine incredibly small samples of the texts to see how they are degrading and what can be done to stop it.
Next week:听Designer soil and the quest for invisibility ...听
