snowdrops. How Does Your County Grow?
Cowbane, Primrose, Sea Holly or Cowslip... which best symbolises your county?

To commemorate the Queen's Golden Jubilee, the charity Plantlife is asking the public to vote online for the wild flower that represents the character of their county.

Nick Weiss of Plantlife says of the project: "County Flowers is a great way to recognise the importance and beauty of our wild plants.

"Sadly, we have lost so many over the past 50 years, and putting wild flowers on the map like this will perhaps encourage us to take better care of what's left."

Votes can be cast online at the website throughout the Jubilee year until 1st December 2002.

The Plantlife site also contains details of which wild flowers are traditionally associated with each county.

Early in 2003, a wild flower will be selected to represent each UK county, based on the most popular choices.
