There are often government campaigns to improve听childrens aptitude for reading, writing and arithmetic - but how much importance is given to drawing?
The Big Draw Campaign was initiated in 2000 by The Guild of St George, a small charity founded by John Ruskin, the great Victorian artist, writer and visionary. Ruskin saw drawing as the foundation of visual thought. His mission was not to teach people how to draw, but how to see.
The annual October Big Draw brings together thousands of people at hundreds of venues across the UK. Here they can discover that drawing aids observation, communication and creativity and, above all, gives pleasure.Twelve launch events kick off the season across the UK.
The Big Draw runs throughout October with the main focus from 15 to 22, in particular Sat 18. The 2003 season kicks off with launch events at The Natural History Museum, London and exciting events in Aberdeen and Belfast on Sat 4 Oct and at Brighton, Birmingham, Cardiff, Exeter, Gateshead, Leeds, Leicester, Liverpool and Norwich on Sat 11 Oct. for details.
