Clare Cupples
On managing an all women crew for the first time

For the first time an all women crew of girl guides is competing in the Tall Ships Races - one of the biggest events in the international sailing calendar. The races are expected to take 27 days starting from the Mersey Docks in Liverpool to Den Helder in the Netherlands via Bergen in Norway. Captain Clare Cupples has over 30 years sailing experience and trained with the Merchant Navy but has never managed an all women crew. She speaks to Jane about hoisting sails, getting her sea legs and her expectations for the race.
