Public Speaking 20 Apr 2009
Women, oratory and the art of public speech

As ´óÏó´«Ã½2’s The Speaker continues its search for Britain’s best young speaker, Woman’s Hour discusses the art of public speech. Why does it matter? How do you get it right when confronted by an expectant audience? And why is it the names of men – Blair, Clinton, Obama – that are so often associated with great oratory? Jane Garvey is joined by Kate Silverton, mentor on The Speaker; Jill Berry, president of the Girls’ Schools Association; and Matthew Taylor, formerly Tony Blair’s chief strategist and now chief executive of the RSA.
