The cleavage debate 17听August 2009
A woman's cleavage
How much should be on show?

Female politicians are once again considering what they should do with their cleavage. Vera Lengsfeld, the Christian Democrat candidate in the eastern Berlin district of Freidrichshain, has caused an international stir by producing billboard posters with images of herself, and of German Chancellor Angela Merkel, displaying their generous cleavages. The posters are designed听to promote her campaign to win her marginal seat in next month鈥檚 general election in Germany, with the strapline: "We have more to offer". But how much cleavage should a woman show? If you鈥檙e a politician, should you be showing it off at all? And would you ever see posters like this in the UK? Jane is joined by Berlin correspondent Steve Rosenberg, and columnists Viv Groskop and Rowan Pelling.
